Validates New U-21 Category for the African Karate Championship, Algiers 2026

Dakar, February 24, 2026

The Executive Committee of the Union of African Karate Federations (UFAK) has officially validated the introduction of a new competition category for the upcoming African Karate Championship – Algiers 2026.

In addition to the existing Cadet, Junior, and Senior divisions, the Championship program will now include the Under-21 (U-21) category. This strategic decision aligns continental competitions with the standards and ongoing development of the World Karate Federation (WKF), further strengthening Africa’s integration within the global karate framework.

Extended Competition Schedule

With the addition of the U-21 category, the duration of the championship will be extended to four (4) days. The event will now take place from Thursday to Sunday in September 2026 in Algiers, ensuring the smooth organization of all competitions under optimal technical and logistical conditions.

Referee Training and Examinations

In preparation for the championship, referees are requested to arrive ahead of the official start date. Several training sessions, refresher courses, and examinations will be organized prior to the competition to maintain and enhance officiating standards across the continent.

Preparations Underway

UFAK encourages all Member National Federations to take the necessary measures to ensure the participation of their respective delegations in accordance with these new provisions.

Further details concerning the competition program and practical arrangements will be communicated in due course.

This development marks another important step in the continued growth and professionalization of African karate.
