Dear Presidents, athletes, coaches, referees, leaders and enthusiasts,

At the start of 2026, on behalf of myself and the Union of African Karate Federations (UFAK), I would like to extend my warmest wishes for health, peace, success and prosperity.

The past year has been marked by significant progress for African karate, thanks to the commitment of each and every one of you. In 2026, we will continue our efforts together to strengthen the position of karate on the continent, improve our structures, promote our talents and raise Africa’s profile on the international stage.

Chers membres de la grande famille du Karaté africain,
Chers Présidents, athlètes, entraîneurs, arbitres, dirigeants et passionnés,

En ce début d’année 2026, je vous adresse, en mon nom personnel et au nom de l’Union des Fédérations Africaines de Karaté (UFAK), mes vœux les plus chaleureux de santé, de paix, de réussite et de prospérité.

L’année écoulée a été marquée par des avancées significatives pour le karaté africain, grâce à l’engagement de chacun d’entre vous. En 2026, nous poursuivrons ensemble nos efforts pour renforcer la place du karaté sur le continent, améliorer nos structures, valoriser nos talents, et faire rayonner l’Afrique sur la scène internationale.

Outstanding Participation of African Countries (UFAK) at the 2025 World Karate Championships – Individual Events in Egypt

 

Under the active leadership of Mr. Souleymane Gaye, President of UFAK, Africa was brilliantly represented at the 2025 World Karate Championships – Individual Events held in Cairo, Egypt.

 

Strong Continental Involvement

 

A total of 16 African countries, all members of UFAK, took part in this prestigious global competition. With 62 athletes (32 male and 30 female participants), this strong turnout reflects the growing commitment of national federations to the development of high-level karate across the continent.

 

The largest delegations included:

  • Egypt: 12 athletes (6 male / 6 female)
  • Algeria: 11 athletes (5 male / 6 female)
  • Morocco: 8 athletes (5 male / 3 female)
  • Nigeria: 5 athletes
  • Tunisia: 5 athletes

 

African Medal Tally

 

African nations collected a total of 6 medals, confirming their competitive presence on the global stage:

 

  • Egypt: 3 gold medals, 1 bronze medal
  • Morocco: 1 silver medal
  • Algeria: 1 bronze medal
  • Tunisia: 1 bronze medal

 

 

 

Looking Ahead

 

This remarkable participation and medal haul reflect the positive momentum karate is gaining across Africa under the guidance of UFAK. President Souleymane Gaye’s strategic vision and leadership continue to reinforce UFAK’s presence on the international scene, supporting athletes and federations through development programs, training, and competition opportunities. The future of African karate is promising, with strong foundations being laid for continued excellence on the world stage.
